Gunwiki blog app

This annoys me to have to write one of these, but it seems that every example out there for Ruby on Rails is yet another blasted blog app. All I want to do is figure out how to get the stupid EDIT SCREEN up and going, but it seems that it's too much to ask of any of the other tutorials there.

So, I must resort to following a blog tutorial so that I can figure out exactly what is necessary in order to create an edit screen, at which point I can actually work on what I want to work on.

System Setup

  • I'm working on installing the Typo blog system, from http://www.typosphere.org/
  • I ran 'yum install rubygems-mongrel mongrel_cluster ruby-flexmock' to get its various pre-reqs installed.
  • I ran this from the command line: "gem install rails mysql rcov rspec xmpp4r hoe ruby-debug ruby-debug-base"
  • It was a pain in the arse to install Passenger, then run 'passenger-install-apache2-module'. It was also necessary to set the environment variables for Apache, as it expected me to use the standard Redhat install paths. I.e.:
    • export APXS2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
    • export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/apache2/bin
