Mill Notes
Items Required Before the Mill Can Run
VFD needs wired up (Sean)
- Wire motor to the VFD
- Find out what gauge wire is desired for the grounding wire.
- Run the motor's ground to the grounding terminal.
- Flip the switch and watch the mill explode
- If no explosion, mount the VFD somewhere on the mill
Determine what all the piles of parts and gears are, and if any are actually needed for primary operation
- Any power feed parts can be stored for later.

Items Required Before the Mill Runs Usefully
VFD front panel items
- Consider a braking resistor
to improve start/stop/etc times.
- Obtain 10k ohm potentiometer for speed control, wire it up to +10v/vi/0v/FM" lines per p17 and p19.
- Determine what the "Trip Relay" thing is about.
- Why would I bother with the external +24V panel on p18?
Examine DRO (digital readout) setup
- Determine what expense would be involved in adding DRO to Y and Z axes.
- Mount DRO to the mill somewhere.
Big aluminum toolplate needs attached
- Determine correct diameter for screws
- Acquire correct pieces to connect toolplate to the mill.
Set up mill for operation
- Set up appropriate storage for clamping kits, etc.
- Acquire 3d taster for calibration as appropriate
Project Specific Issues
AK Builds
Barrel Setup
- Determine correct means of clamping barrels.
- Determine correct diameter and tool to drill gas ports.
- Acquire appropriate end mills / drills for the tiny pin holes needed.
Parts Kit Demil
- Consider building jig to allow end mills to be used in demilling parts kits. Supposed to be really, really fast.
Fitting barrel to trunion may well require
the lathe to be operational.
AR Builds
Barrel setup
- Determine correct means of clamping a variety of barrels.
- Acquire taper reamer, for traditional front sight blocks?
- Determine correct diameter and tool to drill gas ports.
- Determine correct diameter and tool to drill barrel pin.
Receiver setup
- Determine if I do in fact have a complete working jig setup.
Rudius 1911 Builds
Completely blocked on lack of grips from Ares.
Sten Builds
Worry about these after getting
the lathe working.
